Shop Air Cleaner

I do try to limit the amount of dust I create while working indoors. Since having a office area in shop I realize even normal movement during the day I stir up lots of dust. This squirrel cage fan I picked up on a garage sale works great. I just hang a piece of old thin blanket material on the front for a filter. It runs quiet and after a day of normal work it is crazy how dirty it becomes. Even doing a small amount of touch up painting carefully with a aerosol can the color will show up on the filter. Now I don't have to dust my office area and window sills quite as often, LOL. Rod.

The pipefitters on a project I worked on used a furnace squirrel cage fan built into a box with furnace air filters at the bottom(intake) and top(discharge). They were grinding and welding pipe in some tunnel areas of the wastewater trtmt plant. I was quite amazed at how little dust was in the area. Am going to built one for my shop. During warm months I try to do most of that extreme grinding dust making outside but in the colder months inside will need to scrub the air. Great idea. thanks for sharing. gobble

I'm gona file that idea away in my cesspool of useless and wishfull info., other words (back of my head). Wanting to do some minor painting in the shop this winter and don't want to suck all the heat out with a fan in the doorway.

Loren I have only done touch up painting with a rattle can in this shop and this it catches more overspray than I ever imagined was in the air. Rod.

Rod,
I found time to finish off my tractor shop last winter, but didn't get to roof extension addition on the back of my shop. It extends 10' to the rear and is at the same width as the shop. 24'. I have a Miller house trailer furnace unit less burner stashed away. I think I can cut a duct in the shop wall close to the floor in one corner, install a shower rod system with canvases, to close off that corner of the shop. which will filter the paint out and with some ducting return warm air to the shop, rather than exausting it to the outside.
It might just work in my situation. More to come this winter on this project.

I failed to mention that the extension is fully enclosed and insulated, has 3 windows, concrete floor, and will become a tool room/parts storage area.
Loren.
