90&94 Series Case

I am looking for a second hay tractor and prefer MFWD. I know some of the 90/94 series has MFWD but have been told some of them were full time 4x4. What models should I steer clear from in that case? I do ALOT of road time.

So far I have looked at a 2390 2wd (price is right and like the HP) as well as a 2294 MFWD (just talked over the phone) and am not sure what models had full time 4x4.

I also saw a couple 3294 (IIRC) tractors that looked good but said they had a 24 speed power shift instead of the 12 speed. Any info there?

Other wise I am looking at maxxum and new MX series. I really would like 2 dependable older tractors but could get by w/ 1 newer tractor.

2390 is the large frame transmission. ie no 540 PTO
available.

I own both a 2290 and 2294, both 2wd so can't offer
much more advice.

The 32,33,3594 were full time 4x4. The 6
speed power shift is a nicer tranny than
the 3spd. Both are good reliable tranys,
just use case hytran only in them.

Thanks, If I find a 2wd 3x94 w/ 6 speed I will go for it.

Most of my equipment is 1000 or big 1000. I have a tractor w/ 540 if I ever buy a small square baler for punishment.

I run a CIH 8930 and MX 125, Hy Tran is in good supply. I just bought a 4910 4x4 baler and 26ft GP No Till to put behind the 8930 so I need a couple tractors to hook up to my round balers/pull rakes.

I am looking to put together a 2nd hay crew. CIH, Case, or IH are the primary brands I am looking at but I do also like Allis Chalmer tractors (got a 7050 for cheap and it has been a good machine).

3294s will only have the 12spd powershift as they are kind of a different bird compared to the rest. I believe they were put together to get a higher hp mfwd tractor on the market before the 3394s and 3594s came out. They are a large framed engine with a small framed tranny and rear end. I have heard if they are dualed up and pulled hard the rear end wont take it too well. We have one with a loader that runs a big feed wagon all fall and winter and runs a New Holland hydro swing in the summer. We usually pull the front drive shaft in the summer but didn't this summer because we were quite wet. I believe you can get the selectable box from a 2094 or 2294 and retro-fit it in but we haven't done it. There is also no park in the transmission but rather a hand operated lever to the left of the seat that engages a disc on the front drive line for park. There are no 3x94s in 2wd fashion, just the 2394 and 2594 and they had either the 12 or 24spd powershift. The 3394 and 3594s are red and labeled CIH and are large framed 24spd full time mfwd. The 2094 and 2294s are smaller framed and available in both selectable mfwd and 2wd but with 12spd powershift only. If it makes any difference only the 2094, 2294, and 3294 could have 540 pto. We had to swap the pto in our 32 since it was 1000 only, we have a junked 2090 with a good pto we swapped out to have dual speed. We use a 2594 on a 568 JD baler and love it for that. It has the 24spd powershift so finding the right gear isn"t hard and pulling some of our hills with a full bale is nice. Hopefully this helps your decision.

I might part with this one, emails open. Eric
