Tell me more about resealing the Maxxum shuttle clutches. I have service manual, it seems to indicate that the axle trumpets need to be removed and the ring gear shifted or pulled. Thanks Tom

If you split the tractor for the park brake repair, there is a cast iron plate about 2 inches thick that we call the sandwich plate. It is identical in shape to the cast transmission housing. Behind that plate is the shuttle assembly, the top shaft has the forward and reverse wet clutch packs back-to-back, the lower shaft is the 4 speed range transmission. The trumpets stay put and the ring and pinion do not get disturbed. This split is a 3 shaft split, I have better success doing these splits with the rear wheels removed and a good splitting stand on wheels, moving the rear housing away from the front. They can be a bit interesting to get the split together, as you need to align the 3 shafts perfectly.
