This is a condition I have never seen before. Customers PTO developed a rattle and this is what I found. One of the idler gears was cracked with a tooth missing causing the noise. The owner has had this tractor for over 30 years and never had the PTO removed, so this casting repair was done a long time ago. Rod.

The man who BRAZED those peices back together was a master at his trade. Nothing to do with wood putty.
I have a 440 that was broken in two at the torque tube, and the casting was brazed back together, with no leaks or shaft alignment problems. The time factor is a testiment to their knoledge and abilities.

I consider repairs like that to be 'artwork'. The time and skill involved to do this job is thing of the past, these repairs used to be a regular occurrence.

I have been fortunate in my career to keep company with such gifted craftsmen. With my working career coming to a close , my desire is to polish my cast repair skills, with the idea of passing on the skillset to one who can appreciate it. Chuck Machinist

that is one fine repair job, I've always wanted to add cast repair to my abilitys. Be a nice quality to have with old odd tractors that there isn't many parts opurtunitys out there.

I have been told by an old welder, that when properly done, brazing can be as strong or stronger than the original

there IS an art to the technique
