how strong are dc hydrualics?

i am trying to use my 10 wheel m&w hay rake and cant get it to lift the rake up. should it be strong enough to do this or do i have a bad pump or something else?

Mine will pick up decent size round bales.

Are you attaching the top link to the loops on top of the PTO housing or on the cover that goes over the PTO shaft itself. Not a great picture but the EDSC mower is designed for an eagle hitch it has a tall mast. It uses the loops on top of the housing while the PTO shaft is connected. When I use a three point back blade i have to put a cover over the PTO shaft and the top link hooks there, other wise it barely clears the ground.

this is not a 3 pt it is a pull behind rake and i am using a set of outlets that are coming straight out of the hyd pump.

Does it lift OK when it is cold? What pressure does it push? Might try a bigger hydraulic cylinder, and/or thicker oil. Make sure the pressure relief is OK.

If I recall correctly, the DC"s had a high volume but low pressure hydraulic system. I think it was something like 20gpm and 800psi. A modern tractor might be more like 10gpm and 2000psi.

As such, you would need a larger bore cylinder than a modern tractor to produce the same lifting force.

Good luck!

Those pumps on the DC are "Bulletproof". 15GPM, 20GPM was optional. About 1100PSI. When you try to raise the rake, do you hear the engine labor at all? Does the hose stiffen? Could be a problem in the relief valve if you have no pressure.

I'm gussing a DC would have around 800 PSI. You need at least a 3 1/2 inch cylinder.I will lift slow. You do have the PTO engaged? The engine should labor slightly when you pull the lever.

On my old 10 wheel, it was a 3 point that was on a trailer, I couldn't lift it with anything other then a 7045 Allis. 730, DC SC 400. None of them would lift it.

pto is on, and new oil, filter looks good.
when i turn pto on, it whines for 3 or 4 seconds and then smooths out. but when i engage the control valve, it whines and has sort of a grinding gears sound to it. work it 2 or 3 times
and it smooths out also, but still will not lift the rake up.

hooked the rake up to the 970 and it has a little trouble getting it completly shut.
the ram on rake looks small, looks a little less
than 3''.
