How well would a 1957 case 411 do in a plow pull.

Depends on the soil type, loamy or clay. In general she'll "walk the dog" w/ 3-16's. In clay, 4-16's would be too much, 4-14's would be a load.

I agree with John. These tractors were rated for 4-14" plows from the factory. I pull a 3-14" BE series mounted plow with my 400 diesel. With the plow set to plow a low as possible it will pull easy in 4th in normal ground. I can usually use 5th in sandy ground. I have no rear weights or fluid in the tires and rarely have issues with traction. A pull type plow would be similar but you may need additional weight to be able to pull it. As John pointed out soil condition is a factor but the condition of the plow and how it is set up (good coulters, good shares, moldboards scoured up well, level from side to side and front to back, etc.) also plays a major role. If you are thinking about plowing at shows I would recommend 3-14" or 3-16" in a mounted or pull type. That way you will be able to pull it no matter what the conditions.

Nice looking tractor.

Eli

Thanks for the responses, but I was geared more toward tractor pulling. Our local club has what is called a plow pull. Tractors are grouped together by what bottom plow they are rated at not by the weight of the tractor and driver. I'll just go for fun and see what happens.

have the hitch at 20 inches ,put about 4oo lb on the front, pull in low gear , and have fun, if the tires are not loaded ,and you dont get the hitch raised , pull in 2 nd gear , case 400 does good in tractor pulls tom in ky

They demonstrated our 400 super with 5-14s semi mounted. NW Iowa has good ground for a plow. We bought it with a 4-16 mounted. Plowed in 4th.

Your 400 should be rated as a 4 plow tractor. That is what Case always advertised them as. It will do fine if you get the drawbar up to the limit of the rules you pull under. Good Luck! Don

Rated from the factory is not what it can do everywhere in every soil conditions. On some of the land I run you will be sad with 2-16s very heavy red clay other places 3-14s are a good match. Good luck with your plow choice. Johnny
