No, not a Detroit in a DB, but that would be a good someday project. I’m rebuilding the engine in our 1390, and decided to do some playing around with the valves. Wanted some valve seals mostly, as it seems like these engines always have a touch of haze following them, and I think it may be coming down the guides. I used 3/8” stem exhaust valves that GM used in some of the truck engines, and the 4.3 V-6 forklift engines we rebuild. The head is the same diameter, but a little thicker, so it should hold up better, and makes up for what I cut off the seat. Stem is only a little longer than original, and the assembled height comes pretty close, but I did use -.050” keepers on the intakes. I also used the GM rotators, retainers, the tin oil shield, and o-ring oil seals. Has anyone done this before?
