Case 1394 will not pull

I recently purchased a 1986 Case 1394 with a front loader. We noticed it would not climb a small incline with the mower attached and even after we disconnected the mower it still barley pulled itself up the hill. We know the clutch is operating correctly.

Also the loader will not lift anything over 500 pounds nor will it lift the front tires off the ground. I heard something about a hydrostatic transmission, is it possible the hydro pump isn’t putting out enough pressure and causing both problems?

1394s are NOT Hydrostatic drives. They are all gear drive. Your clutch is slipping, if the engine is reving and wheels are not turning.

There were some Hydrashift 1394s. They will have a 4 speed on the dash, and a 1-2-3-R by your right knee.

The syncromesh models will have 2 gearshifts by your left knee, and a 1-2-3-R by your right knee.

Still sounds like a clutch to me. Will it pull itself up the hill in the lowest gears? "Turtle"/"L" on the left levers, and 1 or 2 on the right?

The hydraulics, probably need the strainer under transmission cleaned, a new filter, and fresh oil. Worst case it needs a pump, but I have seen lots of pumps changed when it was another minor problem. If it is a 56 or 74L Case loader, they will lift 3000#, and easily pick up the front end.
