Summer is officially over

Well, the last family of barn swallows left today. They must have had a late hatch as the swallows usually are all gone by the 27th of August. I hope this means frost will be late as well. Corn and beans have a long way to go. Don

Just moved some things out of an old granary today and the barn swallows seemed quite content yet as there seemed to be some little ones in the nest.

Our barn swallows left on Aug.26, about average. In 15 years of watching this barn full Aug. 20 was the earliest and Sept.3 the latest that they left.

Not to sound like a broken record, but beans and more so the corn are behind here. Our hail damaged corn looks great from the road, but a walk through and looks like a half a crop to me. All smaller the normal ears and almost nothing denting yet. Rod.
