Ignition distributors on SC and DCs

In all my years of messing with Case tractors, I think I have only seen 2 SC or DCs with a distributor. Almost everything had a Magneto on it. Did they come with out mags or were they all converted at some point? I have only had 1 SC that actually charged the battery. Everything else had a 12 volt battery sitting on them, and got charged once a year.

Between the SC's and DC's I have 9 of them. All but 2 that are just collector tractors have distributors on them. The 7 are all daily runners for one purpose or another. They are all 12 volt with alternators and distributors. This is the best way I have found to count on them running when I need them.

I've got a DC sitting right here in my yard with a Delco distributor. No idea of if it's stock.

RR,

That is interesting, we had one similar to that on our DC but ours was a IH unit. I was not aware that Delco had made a horizontal like that, only 90 degree uprights, I guess we never get done learning.

All Case S and D series had magnetos. Distributors were an aftermarket add on.Very common to find IH distributors on Case tractors.

The distributor on the Dc in the photo is not a Delco. it is an IH off a late M or hundred series tractor.

My poor old failing memory thought there was a Delco tag on that thing, but there isn't. I'm seeing a little bit of red paint around the base of it.
Nice fit though.

yep that's an Ih distributor. They fit just fine on a Case and work very well. I know a guy with an AC WD with an IH dist. And I know a different guy that has a Farmall H with an AC WD dist.

The flange mount distributors are petty much interchangeable if they turn the same direction.

Delco distributors on Case SC's and DC's are more common around here than Case built magnetos. parts for a case are hard to find and very pricey.

Delco 1111411, a right angle drive distributor fits nicely. leaves more room by the oil filter than the IH distributors.

I haven't seen any on a Case tractor. Presolite made a distributor that looks just like the IH distributor. In fact I've even seen Presolites with the IHC logo on them. The presolite is cast from aluminum and using Presolite points/condenser not IH. I think Presolite used the IH distributor for their mold is why they have the IHC logo on them.

My SC and DC both have Delco distributors. My dad at 3 other SCs and a DC and they all had distributors. I think you could buy them through the Central Tractor catalog.

Unfortunately, parts for Case mags are difficult to obtain in our part of the world. If you don't happen to have a spare cap and one gets a crack in it, the only alternative is to put on a distributor. The right-angle Delco's are the best fit, given they give you more room adjacent to the oil filter. Both A-C and IH used them by the thousands, so they are easy to obtain and easy to find parts for. We have only one mag left on our three SC's and our DC, the rest are Delco equipped. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)
