I remember when these Tach Drives were $35. Yes that was a long time ago, but now for $241 I think this is way out of line for what they are. Someone a lot smarter than I could tool up and build for a fraction of that price. I happened to get one a few years ago which had a steel gear on it. I never did use it because of it being odd. I have never seen one before or maybe they used them somewhere other than the 70 series. If someone would like to purchase it let me know. Rod.

I just got one for our 1070, same price. I asked about a used one at the salvage yard, but one of the guys told me since they don’t have the tool to take it out, the guys in the shop just take a punch to the bottom of them, and of course they always break. Got me to thinking like you, wish I could make one. Or make an aluminum or bronze replacement gear for it. I’ll let you know when I get that figured out. Seriously though, if I could work with someone to make a whole bunch of them, would anyone on here be interested in some?

Back in my college days, in machine shop class I made a speed-o-meter gear on the horizontal mill to calibrate the overdrive transmission in my Ford to the fast gears of the automatic transmission that was replaced. The interesting part was making the square hole down the middle with the EDM machine. Sorry, I do not have the machines needed to make the gears today.

Darrel if anybody could figure out how to make them I bet you can. Give you a good reason to get another tool. Rod.

I used to replace 3-4 a year, now one every year or so. I would not use aluminum. If one could be produce and passed the quality test and provided a price savings I would be interested in a couple, Rod.

You could have a piece of stock hobbed, cut them off, and then broach the hole. You would have to have the broach made, but we made gears with a hex hole this way for a high school project.

the price is high to keep the stok holder earnings up , and to drive new sales and discourage fixing up old tractors ,, again raising stok holders return ...without good returns for stokholders , any company becomes vulnerable to hostile takeovers, when stok holders sell because of poor returns ....and that is how molines , olivers , case , and allis , ihc and ford ,, all became cnh global ,,.. and we are not happy

Many times they raise the price to cut demand then discontinue the part to to lack of sales. Don't be surprised if its nla here in about two years

CASE has gone nuts on their pricing. How about the Comfort King Radiator Caps for $50.00!! Or those cork hydraulic & Case-O-Matic Filters!! We used to keep 2 & 3 of those Rad. caps on the shelf all the time, sold that many a month. Now we only sell 1 every 3 months. I don't understand it. Their pricing loses sales & creates hostility. As a retailer, our goal is to generate volume & good will. CASE does not see it that way.

Wouldn't want to use the steel gear. If it locks up it will damage the cam and/or lock the motor up.

Why? They are antiques & don't compete w/ their new equipment. Sales generate $$$ & hopefully, goodwill. But, what good does it do when a customer walks away empty handed & pi$$ed? Doesn't make sense.

John few years back when they discontinued the RPS control valve I called Racine, after several "transfers" I got a "educated" young man on the phone, he said and I quote "There are Way too many "70" series tractors still running, We need to sell new ones, "they" (CASE not CNH) need to all be in a scrap yard as they built them too well" I cannot post what I said to him, That is the "New" mentality at CNH, they know how many of us still use the Real CASE on our farms, now if you want a part for a Fiat tractor No problem at all they are available

I agree with your thinking but I installed Many of them in "30" series and have never seen one fail and cause damage, not saying its not possible I just never seen it, I have changed far more of the nylon gear ones than the steel

With all the CNC equipment setting around I would think someone smarter than me could make a limited production run of say 6 pieces for their old pals.

I guess I'll have to take a broken one in to work and Draft a blueprint. I could set up a bar feed machine to make them complete. We hobb gears at work all the time.

Hi
if you think that's expensive, Don't ask for a pair of main battery cables for an 1175. One of my customers was quoted just under $400 each in Canada. Now we are looking at buying the heaviest cable we can and building our own. Probably wouldn't cost $400 total, to buy a whole roll of cable /the clamps, and 2 hours or so doing it!

1031D, I would love to know how to make a gear or run a bar machine.

I love playing with my lathe and milling machine.

I just wish I knew more.

Built them to well??!! You should have asked him if Caterpillar got their reputation by building scrap yard material!!

Well guys,
It is just a matter of time before FIAT does away with the CASE AGRI, and the NEW HOLLAND AGRI, and The CASE CONSTRUCTION, and NEW HOLLAND CONSTRUCTION, and rename them all FIAT AMERICA. The IH name has already gone ByBy and at this point you only have to make a choice as to what color of machine you want to buy.
Just a matter of time when CASE, IH, and FORD/NEW HOLLAND are brands of the past; once the world market is ready to accept the transition to FIAT GLOBAL name plate, those names will disapear, and no parts for the older brand names will be availble for any price, from FIAT.
