Electricity

Just wondering what You all think of my light bill it averages $360 a month here in northwest MN all year long and that is just running my house. Every time a tree hugger says coal is bad for the environment My bill goes up and it is not showing any signs of slowing down makes it hard to afford to fix all the things I need to on my old Case tractors Thank You for letting me vent a little.

Unreal! We run $100 to $110ish a month year round. And absolutely everything in our house is electric. Heat and air (geothermal), stove, water heater, dryer. The farm bill adds up but the house is reasonable. We are in central Iowa so don't have quite as severe of winters as you but more summer heat than you. Our house isn't too big and it is insulated well but your bill is 3 times what ours is. I think I'd be checking for "energy leaks".

How many KWHs are you using per month? That is a better way to determin if you have an issue with power leakage some where in your system.
We tipically use about 600KWH per month, in the summer and 800KWH in the winter. The two things that really affect usage are my welders and the electric stove during canning season.
We heat our domestic water with solar.
