1939 Case D

I have an early Case D that is very original but used. It only has x2 two levers on the right, hand clutch and brake. No PTO, no hydraulics, no pedals, no electrics, no place for a starter motor. The serial number on the engine is 4207267C. The tractor is still in its original rusty faded orange (never been restored or painted) and the engine is orange down to the casting.

My question is, did the early 1939 D use the C engine? My search on the engine number dates the engine late 1938. The tractor has not worked from the mid 60's and has stood inside ever since. Its not running as the mag is faulty.

The C in the serial number designates it as a C. The very late C's and all the D's had a starter. If it has the D gas tank, tin, and radiator I would have to guess that someone changed those parts. Picture of right side of engine would be interesting.

Hydraulics didn't come out till 49 on D series. I
would think it would have brakes. They didn't have
brake "pedals" just a vertical flat bar one behind
each axle housing. it should have a hole for the
starter in the transmission/clutch housing. Sounds
like a C with D tin work. I think all the sheet
metal from a D would bolt right on the C.

Don't forget the first 400+ D tractors were made from C tractors in the warehouse. I have a DC made February 1940 and it has a C cylinder head, C transmission with an added 4th gear, CC brakes and wheels, and it has the backwards hand clutch like a C also. Mine also has 4 brake pedals and a hand throttle on the steering column.

I had this 1940 "DC" for years, it was basically a "CC" with "DC" tin and a 4th gear, it resides in MI with the 18-32

Does it have a 3 speed or 4 speed transmission? Turning brakes were an option on the wheatland tractors. Our 1938 C does not have turning brakes.

4 speed gearbox, no pedal brakes only brake lever on the right along with the clutch lever on the right, base mount very large Case Magneto. The speed lever is mounted at the base of the seat mount. Finally added a picture. The tractor as it stands at present half stripped down.
