What Battery for Case Model 630-L ???????

Hi everyone,

I just bought my first tractor an old Case Model 630-L with a loader.
Serial number is 6153603 I believe it was built around 1960-1962.

The tractor needs a new battery and the previous owner told me to use any 12v battery but I would like to know if there is a specific battery that I should be looking for.

Any suggestion/recommendation is appreciated.

Thanks,
Marcio

A group 31 or 30 H are both popular diesel
sizes. see if they will fit in your holder / tray
.

Ok great thanks for the reply.
It seems that Group 31 will fit it, I found a Marine/RV Group 31 here at a local store.

Thanks again,
Marcio

That tractor was initially shipped with a pair of Group 1 batteries connected in a series. The later models (430/470 and 530/570) with a 188 diesel were equipped with a single (heavy duty) Group 30H.

When I replaced the batteries in my 630 diesel after restoration, I went back with two Group 1 batteries because I wanted it to look as original as possible. From a practical standpoint a modern group 30H (or equivalent) will probably give you better service at a lower purchase price that the twin Group 1s.

It's likely that your battery cover is long gone. So the size of the tray will be your only limiting factor. If you have the original Twin battery cover..... we should talk :)

Thanks for the advise I will look for a 30H as you said the size doesn't really matter as the cover was long gone>

Thanks again,
Marcio

I typed 24H instead of 30H initially in a response. My apologies. I actually referenced both in the same response. The 24H would be more appropriate for a spark ignition tractor. The 30H is considered a "heavy Duty" battery and would be more appropriate for your diesel. Sorry for the confusion. - Joe
