830 com popping out of low

My 830 com keeps popping out of low range & doesn't go that far in gear. High range not much better either but stays in better. What is wore or what can I adjust?

Do the gears grind when engaging gears? Usually this is the culprit. The gears or collars get wore back from grinding, then when they are wore back too far, the gear will not hold. Sounds like a major repair to the range shaft.

the few times I seen this the reverse idle shaft bearing was out, might be worth checking as if they set/run with H20 in the oil this is the first to go

The range box has a shifter that is locater on its rail simply by force of clamp bolt, I have seen them slip. Also I have seen the detent springs fail in the shifter box and not hold the shift rods firmly in detent. The top must be removed to work on either and that would be a good time to check the reverse idler bushing. It's not a bad job to do and you can look at the shifter engagement once the lid is off.
