224 with Tall tires, Yearend Report

Soon another mowing season will be behind us. Having done this conversion in the spring. Now it has done the lions share of mowing 2.5 ac every 10-12 days since May. We have come to the conclusion, we really like it. The faster mowing speed has made it the popular selection over the 444 which would always be the first choice in previous years. Both are equipped with 44 in deck but that little faster speed gets it done quicker with ease. The ride across these bumpy farm lawns on the 15 in radials with 5 psi is greatly improved over the short tires. Simply put there is no way I would go back. Even if the rear axle is higher the mower can still be leveled out with no trouble. Done faster with a better ride, it's a win, win. Rod

Rod, I bet that unit will flat Haul the mail in High range!! I have a 73 222 that we sold new to our Cemetery, they ran it three years and traded it in for a new one, we put in a new short block, shipped it to my Dads place in south Texas where it spent the next 27 years cutting 3 acres twice a week, several new short blocks were installed during that time, I cannot even think how many hours are on it, it sits in the hanger/shed, need to dig it out some day a resurrect her, that is a very nice 224 you have there

Have you considered doing a long wheelbase conversion on the 224? I hear all you have to do is flip the front axle around.....I couldn't resist!

Tom high range is impressive, could keep up with any tractor cruise. On black roads it is to fast for safety. The steering is to quick and I know if someone would drive this carelessly you could easily tip it if you were to drive as fast as you could.
 
Great lookin' mower there Rod. I think it would be better pimped out in baby moon chrome hubcaps too. LOL

Kurt I do have a pair of baby moons for the fronts, I should have put them on before taking the pic, LOL.
