Case DC Engine S/N question

Just picked up my new to me DC4 s/n 5317989DC. Question is about engine s/n - should they be same like the Case SC tractor / motor? Motor S/N looks like D43C2461 not sure about the C in middle - but its not a 6 nor an 8 and it is open like a C rather than 0.

So you think the D and C can be split by digits? I have 2 SC and they both have s/n with SC together and matching tractor s/n. No additional numbers obvious - just looked again. I was thinking most likely s/n started D and the number was probably 4302461 and maybe the guy stamping picked up C for 0? In any case, would the 43 make it a 1939 motor?

the stamping could have slipped through, I have seen some tag mistakes a engine flange stamping I would think would be no different, a 39 should have a flange mount mag among other things (unless it has been changed), can you post a few pics so we can look at it more closely? and no I do not think they would split the digits,

That is a early block. See the two pads at each end below the head, should have a 1/4" bolt hole in each pad to hold the 1/2 tube attachment that the generator wires run thru on a 53 model tractor.
