1070 internal hydraulic filter

Dad has a 1974 1070 that we've owned since 82. Occasionally the tractor will stop moving. After it sits for a while, (I don't know how long), it will begin to move again.
A mechanic told Dad that there is an internal filter that could be getting plugged with filings, etc. He said that if we drop the back cover off of the tractor, we would be able to access the filter. I was back home yesterday and took a look at the back of the tractor. Looks like a lot of heavy pieces back there.
Has anyone done this? Any helpful hints?
thanks in advance. Kevin

there is a suction screen on the suction tube, yes to access it you need to remove the PTO unit, it Is heavy, you will need a hoist/cherry picker to remove it safely, I always install a 2' or so pipe on the PTO shaft to balance the unit, I also install two 6" long bolts with the heads cut off as guide bolts, remember to drain all three drain plugs before pulling unit, 17 gallon or so if full, do not try to clean the screen replace it, I do not think this is the only issue you are having but the screen should be replaced anyway
