Got the word yesterday from the guys that scout for the bugs, they said spray. With weather cooperating I knew not to waste time and began right away. Finished this eve. Now I can put the sprayer away for the year. Rod.

Nice pics Rod, are those 20.8 38's? If so you are a good driver. I started hearing about the aphid problem from farmers maybe within the last 10 years. Something about this time of year & them riding the southern breeze north?

Rod: As for aphids, 1 day above 90 degrees, or 1 nite below 50 will kill them. A good rain will also drown them.

You must not have aphids if you believe that. A full week of 95 degrees and they will be just as thick as before. They will not multiply when it gets that hot, but they will double in population every 3 days at 85 degrees. Heavy rain has no effect on them.

Eric the tires are 18.4, we normally have to start spraying the first week of August for them. Some years they do not get bad and I was hoping that would happen this year but no such luck.

Darrel, Our conditions must be ideal for them now, we went from almost nothing a week ago to Oh $hit, where did they all come from, LOL.

I live in southern illinois and have never sprayed for aphids.

I will say though Rod thats a real nice spraying rig you got there.

Most crop spraying around here is done by $250,000.00 self propelled auto steer rigs. My sprayer I bought last year is nearly 20 yr old and cost me $2,500. Nothing automatic and I have to steer the tractor but I don't mind, LOL.

They have been in this area for 10 yr or so. They are another of those non native imported from Asia bugs. They over winter on a bush called the Buckthorn which is non native from Asia and invasive which can be found in almost every grove around here. Can be a problem almost anywhere in the Midwest.

Believe me, what I said about Soybean Aphids here in Upstate NY is true. Maybe I generalized & should not have.
