Finally got to cutting the oats today. The first stuff we planted was a bit over ripe and the rag weed had kinda taken over. These pics were taken in the later planted stuff which was better and cleaner.

looks like the conditions were in your favor.Glad the case swather is getting the job done for you.The oats is worth more per bushel then corn!

Jon,
The one uncle went up Mon. afternoon and cut a round in front of the sap house. Myron and Kevin told him to stop, since they were still trying to finish second cut hay, and the weather isn't cooperating. They are putting up a new storage bin also, and don't need to get involved with oats and baleing straw until those projects are done. Supposed to get more heavy rain today, so the cousins and I are canning up another SS barrel of syrup for our prime buyer. That is the last one we have.
Monday the contractor that I used to work for came over and we paved Dad's and Myron's driveways. 58 ton of blacktop on a hot and humid day.

Jon, Great pitures. Now I have a question. Why are you putting the oats in wind rows? When dad raised oats we ran it through the combine[A6]? Do you ever get to Northern Ohio? Jerry from Ohio

This year it's so the green weeds will dry. The oats got ripe early because it got dry, but if you windrow it you can cut a week or two earlier to beat the fall rains. We usually have to fight the rain here.

Nice pics. It use to be common to direct cut here even 15 years ago. I locked up quite a few new Case IH 1020 heads to direct cut at the dealer, now everyone swaths. The problem here is all the swathers the vintage of yours are worn out junk. My dad took 2 JD's and made one this year.
