How about synthetic oil for the old CASE?

I was reading an article about using synthetic oil in older cars, since it has constant molecule size, better additives, and longer lasting additives, etc. Helps fill in the wear on the rings, etc.

Was wondering if this would be a good idea for my CASE 1942 SC and my 1952 DC.
Any comments here?

For what it's worth I have a 53 MM UB and 47 MM U with mobile one 15 w 40. I haven't had any problems in a couple years.

One thing that I have heard about synthetics in older engines is that it can cause them to leak more oil from the seals than conventional oils.

Today's conventional oils are much better than anything available 60 or 70 years ago when those tractors were new. Today, most older machines get more oil contamination from moisture condensation than they do from use. I would think synthetic oils are great to extend maintenance intervals on daily drivers and machines that run a lot of hours. Synthetic oils might be overkill for machines that are rarely used, and would be an unnecessary expense.

If you can afford synthetics, it won't hurt or help much to use them in older machines. Otherwise, if you want to pamper your tractors, change the convention oil as needed and crack the oil drain plugs to remove condensation before you move them out of storage.

if you've rebuilt it in the past 2-3 decades.. i'd say go for it. if non rebuilt.. i'd stay conventional.

I have a couple antiques on syn after some work ont hem for stuck valves. but those got new gaskets and such..

Brother in law put synthetic in his 05 gmc for a few oil changes then went back conventional and it now burns oil. I think if you do it go with a blend and stay with it, you might have the same problem if you change back

in theory it should be ok.

however, I'm an AMSOIL dealer and AMSOIL does not suggest using it in older engines if they have the older seals and gaskets as they are not compatible with synthetic oils. I think about the mid 60's and newer have different seal materials.

In the motorcycle world that has always been what ive heard. Ive never tried it myself, never felt a need to. On a newer bike i would, in this case tractor.
