9-10 quarts fine. Probably calls for 30 weight. Any problems with 15-40. Have about a third of a drum sitting around , would like to use it.

Never heard of Scheaffer Oil. Almost 30 years ago, when CASE bought IH, the CASE-IH Reps were hawking CASE-IH Oil @ a meeting @ the new local CASE-IH Dealer. Very interesting presentation on the history of lubes, in general. When they were done, the one rep says: "Fella's, I know you are more loyal to your motor oils than you are your wives, but there are 2 oils out there we do not want you using in our engines"! At that point, he reached under the table & slammed 1 qt. of Pennzoil & 1qt of Quaker State oil on the table. "These 2 companies spend millions on advertising & nothing on research, junk"! What he said re-inforced what I had learned re-building engines.

John, Scheaffer Oil is I believe out of St. Louis , Missouri. Dad always used it in everything. 1970 770 diesel with about 6000 hours on it needed the balancer replaced . When I opened it up there was no sludge and it looked like new. Sold me on it.The bearings were even within specs.

They are indeed out of St Louis Missouri. They have been around since 1839. The correct spelling is Schaeffer.
