My 1106 combine if finally operational.

After about 8 days total work my 1160 is ready for combining oats. I posted before about taking the drive clutch off to free the shaft, taking apart the header drive clutch to free it, and freeing up the brake pivots, they were all rusted solid. Also took the reel and sickle off and installed a pickup attachment. Just spent another 3 days on it. Gave it a tuneup and cleaned the carb, put on a new alternator and fan belt. Finished patching the header pan that was rusted out. Then finished the pickup. Had to extend the drive shaft and add a bearing out there. Was able to salvage all the parts except the belt from the old head I got the pickup from. That's also where I cut the patches for the pan from. Here are some pics of this weeks work and a video of it running.

combine running

The Renn pickup looks like it hasn't done much work as the paint is all there. I've got a quick tach feeder house for a 1160 that would pick up JD heads. Use to be able to get teeth for the Renn pickup in Hendricks Mn. I've got two Renns for my 1660s.

looking good, bet it feels good to have it done? I've been doing work on my Oliver 430 combine, but now my custom work for a friend went bye bye, so hopefully I can pickup some custom work for the neighbors next year, I'm really excited about using it.

Great to see and hear her running. I'm with John on the 318. Love the sound. Did 1160's come with dual exhaust or is that a modification? Spent a fair amount of time on a 1060 and know that the 11 was beefed up in several areas. Does anyone know the specific differences between the 1060 & 1160?

many "upgrades' were done to a 1160 over the 1060, power was the same, drive wheels/frame/tin axle, higher speed augers/ clean grain elevator all were all heavier/beefed on the 1160 for its service in beans and corn, the drive wheels are double on the inner dish, if I think of more I will post them, I even have a 35mm slide film of a 1160 being built, by the way Jon you must have a real special built one a "1106?" LOL

Hey Tom: Actually, strip the tin away, & engine, and the 1060's & 1160's were not much different than the 1000 & 1010?? All were 42"??

Correct John, there was improvements in each machine, I have run a 1010 header on my 1000 for the past 43 years, the only change was that a 1000 has a smaller mounting fork where the header attaches than a 1010. the 1160 also has #80 chain like a 1660 driving the header, the 100-1060 have #60

Jon,

Your hard work is paying off. I hope it performs well for you out in the field! Case powered by Chrysler, how cool is that? Don

It's a very rare model. Its the same as an 1160 except worn out, rusted through, seized up, and broke down. Other than that they are the same.

nice to see the combine still being useful.Hows the corn you planted on the fourth of july doing? i planted some the same day and its in the 8th leaf stage. Has a long ways to go just to make silage.

The last time I looked it was about knee high, but it's hurting for water now. I can't believe it can be so wet and get dry so fast. What I find interesting is that the corn that was slightly stunted in the low spots from flooding is dying faster than corn on the high ground and sandy spots. You would think the wet spots would hold on longer but that's not the way this year.
