I have now discovered that the pressure plate on my 54' SC foot clutch is cracked (not yet broken). I was cleaning the clutch to reinstall it on the tractor after the engine rebuild when I noticed it. It goes about half way across the clutch face and appears to be about 1/8" deep at the outside diameter. Also, there is no discoloration, burns, other stress cracks, or excessive wear on any of the clutch parts. Additionally, I drove the tractor before the rebuild and there were no noticeable problems. I have located two sources for used replacement pressure plates and plan on having a highly recommended clutch shop refinish and swap out the pressure plate. However, I understand that some tractors use a special gauge to reset the clutch fingers whenever replacing clutch parts. Does anyone else have this information? My manuals don't have it, and I doubt that the clutch shop will have it. Also, I have seen some badly worn, burned, stress cracked, pitted clutch plates and this one is none of those things. Any comments are appreciated.
