1070 Steering shaft help needed

After taking off the steering wheel, how do I get the shafts apart to get at the keys on the bottom that supposedly are the problem of tightening the telescoping wheel?

You don't need to take the steering wheel off. Pull the pin
where the coupler meets the steering hand pump, the whole
assemble pulls out. With a parts diagram you'll see what your
up against. Good luck with the snap ring.

I cheated and put a hose clamp around the steering
shaft above the column in the position I wanted the
steering wheel. Quick fix that I was going to repair
later....it's on the shaft yet, 20 years later.
