Case-o-matic

I was wondering as I was cutting hay with my 830,do case o matics take much power compared to straight trannys? Don't really seem to,I've never really heard.

They must take a little more. The Caseomatic tractors were all set 200 RPM higher than the standard clutch models.

You could compare the Nebraska Tractor tests for a gear drive 830 to a Case-o-matic 830 in direct drive and to a Case-o-matic 830 in Case-o-matic drive.

I don't have the complete tests, just some brief summaries compiled in a tractor book. I can't say these summaries are accurate or that there are no typos. Also they don't list the results in COM drive vrs in direct drive. Please look up the actual tests to get more complete and accurate information.

Some of the 1959 test numbers are:
#736 831-C Diesel
#737 831 Diesel
#738 841 Gasoline
#740 841 LPG

I did notice that although the horse power is almost the same for both diesels, the engine RPM and HP-Hr/gallon (fuel economy) are different.

831-C Diesel:
63.74/58.48 HP, 1900rpm, 13.20 HP-Hr/gallon (PTO?)
(PTO HP/Drawbar HP ?)
831 Diesel:
63.76/58.48 HP, 1700rpm, 13.61 HP-Hr/gallon

The 1958 test for the 700 (gear) and 800 COM are similar.
801-B COM Diesel:
54.42/50.14 HP, 1800rpm, 12.13 HP-Hr/gallon
701-B Diesel:
51.20 HP, 1500rpm, 13.77 HP-Hr/gallon

Good luck.

Thanks that is fun to read I always thought on the 800 anyway
they were faster for more power but they are the same as the
700
