Success! The 230 Baler Tied a Knot!

I posted a couple weeks back about my Case 230 square baler not tieing a knot. Well, I took the old tucker finger bell crank that had been bent when the needles broke, straightened it, aligned the tucker finger arms, painted it, and installed it. Baler tied three bales in a row (I ran out of test hay). Now just a slight adjustment to the bill hook tension, and I am ready to go! Key was the angle of the tucker finger arms to the cam arm, needs to be about 100 degrees, for some reason the used one I had used to replace the bent one had the angle at about 60 degrees.

Do not let that 3 pt hitch bar fall into the pickup or you will have other problems. We had a DC crank go through a New Holland super 77 once. It cut 3/4 the way through it. No damage to the baler. Still have the crank somewhere. Memories, memories.

No worries DKASE, it is now safely sitting on a plow, so when it falls off it will just add iron to the soil!

I was running the hay through with a 300, which I also use to rake with a NH 55. If I use the 3pt drawbar, the rake is easier to hook up and to lift up the reel to move it. Neighbor borrowed my tractor and rake set up that way. Couldn't believe he spent all those years cranking the reel up the cranking it back down every time he moved from one field to another.

Now that's a neat idea. I would never have thought of it. I've a 286 side rake I use all the time when I combine for small squares. The ONLY issue I have with it is the frame will not let the cylinder lift it high enough to clear existing windrows so you are always ripping them up when leaving a field. I've got an Eagle hitch on the SC I rake with..........Only been fighting that issue for years. Bought a parts rake and even thought of adding to the frame to get more height with the cylinder. Won't even tell you where that is on the "list"
