730 not hot

Our 730 temp gauge will go to 240 then to 0 then back.It does'nt get over heated.Radiator is full,wires tight at sending unit. Dad is going to check wiring harness in the morning. If it's not in the wiring would you it be the gauge or sending unit. Thanks in advance. Bob

Make SURE gauge is grounded.

How long does it take to go up and back down? The sending unit can be checked with an ohm meter.

Quite often when that occurs, the sending wire is grounded out someplace, Rod.

After getting sheet metal off the nut was loose on the gauge.And after all those years of being untouched.Imagine that.THANKS Everyone
