52 VAC Hydraulic Pump Shaft

VAC Man

New User
Hello,

I have a 52 VAC with a distributor hydraulic pump. The seal in the pump has worn a groove on the shaft, and now the hydraulic fluid leaks into the crankcase. I cannot get a new shaft from Case.

Has anyone else ran into this issue? Any ideas on how to fix it?

Thanks!

There's a product called a "Speedy Sleeve" that might be available , depending on your shaft diameter

That shaft is hardened (heat treated) to work with the type of needle roller bearings that Case used, and to prevent the gear from galling the shaft when installing and removing it (due to the strong press fit). You may have problems with a soft shaft. If you can find a shop that can do cold spray welding (<500 degrees f) you could build it up and have it reground. As others have said, a speedi-sleeve is probably the best option, but you may have to do some careful trimming with a moto-tool once it is installed to make it fit between the bearing and the gear. Other than the speedi-sleeve, the cheapest option is probably to buy another used pump.
You might also consider just installing another seal in the groove. However, this will only work in the long run if there are no rust pits, and if the shaft is not worn down a whole lot.

I have one I would be willing to sell at a reasonable price. I bought it from a wrecked tractor but will not be using it. PM me if you would like to discuss it.
