tractor serial and plate says Case 431 even though someone had put the 470 logo on it. I found out that it is a 431 about 1964.
I followed the instructions on the forum for 3pt not working (a lot of documentation and has been great help) and I did the following.
changed out the filter thanks to NAPA. no real evidence of clogging but it was very dirty (I think).
checked the pressure at the pump by hooking up pressure gauge and monitoring tractor while running. OK.
checked to make sure I didn"t have leak from cranktube to trans. didn"t seem to either be raising or lowering.
I bought the tractor used. the 3 pt worked up and down without a load on it. I brought home. one of the remote hoses seemed to crack and had a big puddle of milky brown dump under the tractor. I replaced the hoses refilled it with Tractor Supply trans fluid and since the 3 pt hasn"t worked (note tractor was outside and it had come some big rains but I haven"t seen any milk since in the tank could have been a lot of old fluids in the tractor so don"t know).
I engage the lever on right of seat and nothing, no action, the handle doesn"t even seem to be doing anything, no vibration no anything just back and forth loose.
initially some things bothering me as I took apart the 3pt.
I took the right arm off, then I took the left arm off and immediately as the left arm came off the shaft spun a good 360 x 2 or more. it was a lot of movement spinning clockwise.
I removed the case cover (btw I NEVER saw a case so hard to pull off with the paint and the gasket sealing it) I kept looking for a hidden bolt. I put a engine hoist on it and left it pulling about 1/2 ton and smoked and after half a cig it goes pop, and raised up in air.
right now I have it raised up in air with the shaft out and I am seeing no evidence inside the trans of a leak (the trans fluid is green), no sign inside the cone at piston of leak.
the question I have is the cylinder supposed to be loose in the cone shaped piston cylinder, its just flopping around when I move the center grip shaft receiver inside the case cover.
I don"t see reason to pull apart the piston cylinder, etc, I just need to know if nothing retains the cylinder or is it just the weight of the arms that keeps it pressed up against the piston cone?
the next step I guess is the valve, and making sure that it is working properly.
