Need info about a SC

Hello everyone! I have been lurking for a while, but am a first time poster.

I was hoping someone could help me out with a few questions I have on a 1941 Case SC. My dad and I farm here in WI. and have primarily Farmall/IH tractors. And although I know my way around those pretty good. I am no nothing about case tractors. I am interested in the SC because it is the first tractor my dad purchased when he bought the farm. He only had it for a couple years before he sold it and upgraded.

I went and looked at it yesterday at a dealer that is a couple hours away. The tag on the dash puts it at a 1941, but I thought it was odd that it had a distributor instead of a magneto. It seemed to run well even though it needed a set of plugs and wires. The previous owner had repainted the tractor a while back. It is by no means a professional job, but it looks pretty good. The tin is in very good shape, with only a couple small dents. I drove the tractor as well. Steering seemed good and tight and it seemed to run out good in all 4 gears and reverse.

So my question is can anybody tell me if there is anything else I should check before I possibly pull the pin and buy this tractor? Beside the obvious stuff.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Bought my 45 sc 20 years ago.
Very basic well built tractor.
Drive it in parades and down the road just for fun.
if it runs and shifts good - go for it and enjoy

These tractors really don't have any common weaknesses. Engine blocks are sometimes cracked behind the carburetor from freezing. Might try the PTO and brakes. Tires are a big expense. How are the tires? If you can, drain a little of the oil out of the bottom of the oil pan to check for the presense of antifreeze.

I have 42. ,nice tractor. It wans my fathers and I grew up with
it. Very rugged tractors. Buy it. Mine has distributor on it. I
bet there are chrome strips on the side of the hood. Early
models did. Stopped this during the war...metal went for bullet
casings....

Power lift?
I have used auto lite, champion,ac plugs. Right now I have
Bosch. They appear to be the best. Got them at Autozone.

Enjoy
