Putting the pickup on the 1160

I also worked some on getting the pickup on the header. Of course everything is harder than expected. I forgot about the holes in the bottom of the header until I got the reel off. I got the rusty stuff cut out, but will have to wait til next time I'm home to weld in the patches. Got the pickup all mounted, just have to extend the drive shaft a bit and rig up a belt tightener.

Jon,

Thanks for posting these pics of your 1160. It brings back memories of using mine in the early 80's. I really liked that machine, but parts were very hard to get and expensive. I admire people who have the tenacity to keep them going. Don

Nice case combine, I rented my uncles 960 with 2 row head one year to do some corn, easy to run combine. What kind of pickup is that? I have never seen one like that. My uncle had a Sund brand on his case for grain, my dad also ran a Sund on his deere 96 and before that he had a Melroe pickup on it.

I forgot to ad that another of my uncles had a 1010 case combine. It was an outside machine, like most machines around here. To save on replacing sealed bearings, they drilled a small hole in the side of the bearing and pump a little wd40 and then grease with a grease needle and then put a little silicone over the hole. They would do this before they started harvest and probably did 3 or 4 hundred acres each year with no bearing problems.
