1070 Case what to look for

I have a couple 1030's but am going to go check out a 1070. What do I need to watch for when looking at it, the powershift is supposed to be tight, that will be the first thing. Will use it on a discbine and batwing mower. Are the 1070's much better than the 1030's? Any help will be much appreciated.
Thank you,
Charlie

had one without the powershift and the two parts that really drove me nuts was 1. the bushings in between the gears would get wore out and the shifter would jam between the gears and slid out of the pockets. ours had a loader to it might not be a big deal for you just cutting hay or bush hogging. 2. this one is the scary one. the brakes are hydraulic applied and if the motor dies you pretty much have nothing for brakes. very dangerous on hills. my cousin stopped in the road to talk to me on a slight grade put it in neutral and shut it off and almost ran over his little girl on her four wheeler. pretty much mangled the front quarter panel when I had to ram the truck under the back tire protect her.

amen , you did good ,WHY CASE DID NOT COMPLETE THEIR JOB AND PUT A PARK PAL IN THEIR TRANNY IS PROFFESSIONAL NEGLIGENCE , e brake is not enuf , especially with all the CONSTANT adjusting necessary ,,. they are dangerous sob's,, you cannot put just anyone on the SEAT, especially with the hills around here ...

take a look at the air filter and see what it looks like, since they were kind of a pain to service under the hood sometimes they were neglected. if they were neglected they have a tendency to create an oil burner.

There are lots better Case mechanics on here than me, but at this time no one has answered your question. If you can, pull the transmission filter housing and look for metal; indicates transmission is going to have problems. Also, when you shift the power shift with no load, the front wheels should almost come off the ground. If not, the PS may have problems. Engine is really good, just look for the normal blow-by. I live in west central Missouri and we have no hills that the brakes cannot handle. The brakes are easy to repair and not too expensive for any of the components. Probably will need new brake discs and clean up the actuator that pushes the discs apart. The master cylinder kits are easy to install, especially with the hood off. If the park brake cable is original it may need to be changed. The cable runs thru a couple of pulleys that are held in place by 5/16 rods that tend to bend down after a few thousand hours. Takes an hour to fabricate new ones and put them in place. I would guess you can totally rebuild the brakes for $5-700. Not much compared to the price of a new 105 hp tractor. We still use ours and my 22 year old son has a fit if I even mention replacing it.

if you keep them in correct working order they have brake when the motor is off, if they have been run with the park brake on it take out the return springs and actuator balls and glaze the disc's and they will not work right and with no power assist they do not work, NOT the tractors fault I have many "70" series here I keep the brakes working, I get tired of hearing how "bad" something is when it is due to improper maintenance, same with the "30" series brakes mine work fine, smoke'em and they do not work,,Hmm wonder why must be pos,, NOT

ok enough ranting

So the brakes are different than the 1030? I've redone those before and added a 1/16 larger ball bearing and they worked great. Thank you all for your help.

the "70" series had a hyd and a "power" brake system depending on how they were ordered a step above the mechanical "30" series

I have a 2090 with the park paul and I HATE it! When trying to hook up to something it is either to far back or to far ahead. The park paul cannot be engaged on the move like the 70 series brakes can. The parking brake on the 70 series can be set anywhere. The parking brakes will make the tires slide on all my 70 series tractors. Do not call them a POS if you are the one that does not maintain them. I think I adjust them once every 5 years.
