430 Hydraulic mystery

I picked up an old Case 430 with a front loader for FREE!! One year into it, I"m thinking I overplayed.
here is what I did so far. Split tractor and rebuild transmission(Low and High Were Gone) New seals between between there and rear diff. 3Pt Seal, Rebuilt Injection Pump. All Hydraulics were working fine until last week. After using the loader for awhile it suddenly lost its ability to lift. When I shut it off and restart it works again for a short time. Seems like a supply problem, but as far as I can tell there is NO pickup screen on these old things and the filter appears to only filter oil that is returning to the reservoir. (seems dumb am I understanding that right?) Also the 3pt hitch lifts but it is delayed by about 30 seconds.
Any ideas? When it works I could lift a tank! but when it stops I can"t even lift an empty bucket.
Thank you all for your help.

You are correct on your thinking about the un filtered pickup tube. We always clamped a peice of screening over the end of the tube. It sounds like you have a cracked tube or a bad 0-ring on it. Could also be that the pump swallowed something and scored it internally. I'm sure you know the routine, remove hood and fuel tank, unbolt the dash support bks., and pull the pump and valve housing to access the pump.

most filters work after the fact ,especially engines ... think about it , now, what would happen to a engine ?if the filter was plugged on the input side to the oil pump?? ,, I have the same problem on the Liberty 430 ... well sorta ,,it will lift a tractor given enuf time,, it is moderately slow but adequet ,even for movin round bales ,, it quit altogether last summer one day ,, then after 3 days runnin the baler , came back to life slowly,, like adk says as to the remedy ,, one of these days gonna take it down,, but rite now ,county fair and hayfields takin all my time

I actually didn't know the routine-- thanks for the order of dis-asembly. I am seriously blown away that this system filters the oil only on it's way back to the reservoir. I like the though of a bad o-ring or cracked tube, but how would that explain the fact that the hydraulics work like a charm for the first few minutes. And then work again after the tractor is shut off and then restarted? How full does the reservoir have to be--- if I'm 1/4 inch low but still reading on the dipstick should I be okay?

Ummm--- I think you might be mistaken. Engine oil is most certainly filtered before it is pumped to the engine. they are also equipped with a filter bypass in case a filter becomes severely plugged. But I may not have this tractor figured out. I just removed the filter and cranked it over and it appeared that the filter was only filtering return fluid, which still seem dumb to me especially considering there isn't even a pickup screen.

My hydraulics work GREAT, until about three minutes after startup-- then they become slow or non existant.

Thanks for your thoughts

Any other ideas?

Do these threads get buried? Or are they at the top of the list when they are still active?

If you use modern view every time there is a reply it goes to the top of the list but if you are using classic it can get buried
