This is a pic from this evening of the corn on the upper 40.
The soil ranges from little to none to 12" in this field. Weather has been perfect for growing crops. Not so good for making dry hay, but only a few farmers, mostly the Amish try to do that anymore. Mostly chopped hayledge, and round balage.
Last pic. is of the farm road. I dumped a lot of rubble from my dad's old driveway into the washouts in the farm road to fill them, and groomed it into place with the Kubota and york rake today. I am putting in a blacktop driveway at dad's house, and had to box out a lot of marginal fill and replace with crusher run for a stable base.

Nutty, Marilyn and I will be going right past your back door in three weeks on the way to Bozeman. We could stop in to see you if time allows. You might be getting close to having the combines rolling by then. Jim

funny , everyone getting rain ,,B UT ,,we are near drought conditions in Louisville area ,, farm ponds way down ,, no runoff since early may ,, we have gotten a ration of a guarter inch or more every 10 days , to keep us hangin on ,,. ... all in all crops look fair but all could use a 4 inch soaking ,, no blooms yet on short beans,, corn tasslin shoryt,, about head height ,, ears don't look to promising on the earlycorn ,..

Tom, Great looking crops and as always great pictures. One question fo you. Your hay barley what is it used for ? I have not heard of that before .
Jerry from OHIO

Jerry, they have several variety's of "hay Barley" mine is called "Hay Bit" it was bred to hold on to its leaves much longer and is beardless for cow feed, the straw and kernel's are different than regular Barley, I have seen cows walk away from nice alfalfa and run to this when you start unrolling it

Crops are looking good. Didn"t see much if any corn west of central South Dakota when I was out that way last year. Is dry land corn very common around there, and what kind of yields do you get out of it?

Corn here is not common at all where I am, East of me 100 miles in SD they have quite a bit of irrigated, as for yields I really do not know for sure as I have never got to harvest any as with no drier system it has to be dry when I harvest, I did have a friend from MI tell me from what he counted a few years ago he thought it would be 75-85 bpa

Wow those are low yields, but then again I'm from central Iowa and I'm used to higher numbers. I would think out in Wyoming there would be less humidity and more wind, aiding in drying.

before it had gotten dry enough,, then the next day it snowed and snowed each time till only the tassels were showing,, then when it melted the wildlife ate it as it melted,, dang deer really liked it lol

Tom, I think everything looks good, next year I vote for you and me putting in sweet corn.

I like those heads, and will like it better watching the "1660" Flagship
