A bad spark plug. I bought points, condenser, and a plug for it figuring it has not had a tune up in a couple years. I gapped my plug and threw it in and literally bumped the key and it roared to life. I know I was seeing spark when I had the plug out and up against the head bolt. So thank you everyone and congratulations MeL

Had a very similar experience today. I have been prepping the driveway at my dad's house today, for blacktop when the Honda on my plate tamper quit. plenty of gas, plenty of oil, and had spark when I pulled the plug, grounded it and and pulled the starter cord. The plug had lots of gap, so I banged the tip of the plug a bit, reinstalled it, and off it went again.
Glad we are both up and running again.
