Between hail and flooding mother nature has been on a rampage this year. Some of the worst ever here in SW MN.

Don,
That looks nasty there. I was wondering the same as the other guys, nasty hail or snow?

That's hail and its corn. We got 4 inches of marble sized hail. The snowplow had to clear the roads as it had drifted up to 2 feet deep over places on the roads. What a year. Don

yes, Don my heart goes out for you All , I think you are in Wisconsin rite ?.. will the corn recover ? like to see updates a week, 2 and 3 weeks out ...

Sorry to see that. That's a tough one. The corn will not recover enough to make a crop at this stage in the game. Jim

Thanks for the kind words John. We are very fortunate to have hail coverage, although it is depressing to see a good looking crop blasted to pieces. I feel sorry for the orchard owners who lost everything, maybe even the trees. Don

Thanks Jim,

We are really unsure of what to expect from this corn crop. We have damaged corn from knee high to chest high. I am told the appraiser will come in about 10 days to see what happens in the meantime. We are concerned that the hail damage will delay development on an already late and cool season, and possibly foster some disease troubles.

We are located on the Door peninsula of NE WI near lake Michigan. I'll keep you updated on what the crop does. Don

Steve,

I'm no expert but I think that crop insurance does kick in after a loss of 20-30% averaged across all acres. Hail insurance kicks in on dollar one of loss, but only on actual appraised losses. Hail is tough to predict on yield loss as you generally don't know how much the crop will recover-if at all in serious cases. Don

Don, Sorry to hear about your hail loss. I was hoping the storm had missed you. Fred, at TMFC asked me yesterday if I knew if you got hit. Hard to believe some of the pictures on TV. Al

o boy ! , seems like a nice understorm built the hale from lake effect ,, bet you get treatment like that too often ...seems like a nice area , if all stays tame
