Getting 830 ready for pulling

I have been getting the 830 Case O Matic ready for pulling, turned up the fuel for a little smoke, added a couple front weights, 5 inch straight pipe, and a couple weights out back on the eagle hitch. I Pulled with it about a month ago just for a test, in third low in torque converter it will pull the front end of the ground about a foot. It seemed to pull good in both torque converter and direct. Is there anything I should be careful of when pulling with the Caseomatic other than watching the oil temp and letting off the throttle a bit when shifting to direct. Should I let off the throttle a bit at the end when she lugs down in direct to go back to the torque converter or just stay on the throttle and pull the lever back to the converter? I always let off the gas when shifting from torque converter to direct when going down the road. Any advice is appreciated
Thanks
Ben

Some pulls have a year limit of 1959 or older. Your 830 is obviously newer. Most won't let you shift the caseomatic during a pull, converter drive or direct. Pulled a 800 caseomatic a little, 2nd gear direct did best but I didn't have the big tires. Some pulls only let you go 1 tire size larger than stock. RPM only 10% over stock. Speed limit on the speed of your pull, large tires you won't be able to go in 3rd even if you could pull it. Too slow a gear but enough hp it will spin out. Course you can go the next class up but probably don't have the horse with a stock engine.

Don't let off when going from direct to com under a load. And don't wait too long to do it either, if you do there will be a slight pause before the com takes over and you loose your momentum. With those tires I would just stay in 3rd com all the way so you don't have to deal with the pause and you get a nice smooth pull all the way. If you haven't already check your rules because most won't allow weights on the 3-point or any movable bar. Also for your hp I would put all the weight on the front, you pull more with the front on the ground.

Ok, thanks for all the advice, I appreciate you guys giving me some tips, I think for this year I will just be taking her to the local show, where there is just a sled for fun, next year I will get a little more serious, and build some brackets forward of the axle to hang some weights. At this pull there are not too many rules as long as everyone is safe, it's just for a little fun between a handful of guys. I'll take some pics when I go.
Thanks for the help.
