Case 230 Knotters

After rebuilding this knotter I can not get it to tie a knot with hay in the chamber. Ties OK with no hay and turning by hand, but not with hay in the chamber. I think tucker fingers are not placing the twine far enough back for the bill hook to catch it, but the tucker fingers are adjusted as far back as they will go. Looking at the bell crank, the angle between the tucker finger arms and the knotter shaft cam arm is about 60 degrees, but on the bent one I replaced the angle was about 110 degrees. Does anyone have a specification for what this angle is suppose to be?

Can't help here, but I will say, 3 things will drive a man to suicide, Bad Wife, Bad Combine & Bad Baler!!

On our JD balers that have baled 100's of thousands of bales we have had to modify the tucker finger cams, and linkage to get them to lay the twine in properly. What ever it takes to get the job done.

Hard for any of us to help not seeing it however make sure there is proper tension(drag) on twine coming out of box. Also are all dogs keeping hay from springing back an hitting twine. Also plunger might be slightly off time allowing hay to spring back an get in twine path.An is notch in twine discs timed right when twine is pulled through.(not having middle disc somewhat blocking slot for twine.

200-230 all yse the F95447 tucker finger bellcrank. Make sure yours is not bowed forward so that it does not pull the tucker fingers around far enough. The slightest bow will caus your problems.
Also check the haydogs and springs. If your hay is course and stalky, chamber wedges may be necessart also.

I timed the baler A couple of days ago and put on a new knotter frame to get the twine disk right. It is very difficult to get a picture of the knotter that shows everything, but the tucker fingers are as far as they go in the picture.

What ACG said. May have to heat the shaft between the operating lever and the first tucker finger lever and give it a little twist. Tucker finger rods should be shortened so the point of the tucker finger is just on the edge of the needle slot when in home position. Shorter the rod the longer the throw.

Been lont time since i used or worked on baler but seems to me tucker fingers are not nearly going far enough to push string in proper place. Other fellows who are still baileng should have answer to that.Should be addjustment on there for that.Chime in fellows !!!!!! Cant have a Case baler not working!
