Case 401 diesel tractor

Hi guys,
My neighbor has this Case 401 (diesel) tractor for sale. What year is it? I need to seriously know what it is worth? I don't know if the engine is loose, but I am assuming so. It hasn't run in the last 4-5 years or so. This past winter's snow took the machine shed down, so my neighbor is cleaning up and wants to sell the tractor. Can anyone help me out please? I don't want this tractor to go to the scrapper. It is located in Southern Minnesota. Thank you. Kow Farmer Kurt

Kurt,
That is one that only a Case guy could love. It has some very noticable down falls, but some pluses also, shuch as Charlynn PS unit and an original top link. I don't think the Swartz wide front means much but it is on it.
I my neck of the woods it is an $800-1K tractor if the engine is free, and not split from freezing.

Hi Loren,
I forgot to say this, in the one picture on the tractor on the platform is a power steering pump for it that wasn't installed. It is in side a black plastic bag. I didn't look at the pump for a manufacturer. Did anyone else make after market pumps besides Char-Lynn?

Kurt,

That will be a labor of love for certain. I would say it is worth slightly more than junk price. 6000 lbs x $200/ton = $600 for scrap.

I bought a Super diesel for $750 several years ago and stuck over 4000 into it-so far. If it is as tough on the inside as it looks on the outside it may cost you a small fortune. I admire your desire to save it. Don

I'm not interested in the tractor since I already have a $6,000.00+ 400d. lol But I would be interested in the charlynn power steering if it's available.

shux guys , somebody save that 400 ,it would be welcome at my place ,,half the stuuf I am runnin looked like walkin death junk yard dawgs when I got them home ,,, with a little time and elbow grease and lots of LOVE , I now have some decent tractors,...

Don R. is right on the money. Here is another one if anyone is interested. This one is a gas. I haven't picked this one up yet, just down the road from me. 715-505-8786 Eric

Wouldn't mind having that one as we have the missing tinwork to make it pretty. First Case diesel Dad bought was a nice 400. Thought we died and went to heaven. Where is this one and who to contact??

If the engine is not stuck I would say $400-600.

At least the tires are up which is a plus with today's tire prices.

But any way you look at it's scrap value plus maybe $100 tops to make the deal.

P.S> ask the owner if he has any of the tin work setting around even if it in bad shape try to get it.

Just my opinion

Good question. I don't know that. The tractor was purchased as you see it in the pics by my neighbor.
