Helped a neighbor replace the cracked block in his 1030. Found the crack in the upper counter bore of a cylinder when we were refinishing the counter bores. It could probably be fixed (expensive?). He intends to haul it to a scrapper next week unless someone is interested in it.

I too found a crack in the upper counterbore of a 1030 block. I made vertical supports out of cast iron & tapped them in place under the lower lip of the counterbore. They extend from the lower edge of the upper counterbore down to the top of the lower counterbore. I am confident it will work. Still re-building it. Don't let him scrap that block!!

Cracks in counter bores are common and nothing to worry about after truing up. A major machine shop like Abraham's Mach., Davenport Iowa could replace counter bore.

The shop that builds the counterbore repairs

says DO NOT do it , the deck is not thick

enough to put the repair in. I put repairs

in many other engines ,but not those.
