Case 430/440 - Power Steering Cylinders Replacement

As most of us already know, the Case 430/440 Power Steering Cylinders are extremely hard to find. They have been obsolete for years. So what do you do if you need one?

Does anyone know of a replacement for a cylinder (A36761)? Has anyone ever created an entire replacement setup for this system? I would sell my one original cylinder if I could get a pair of replacement cylinders. However, if someone out there would have mercy on me and send me a price for one cylinder, I would be eternally grateful. It breaks my heart to see my 430 just rotting because of the missing cylinder.

I’m sure there are some creative thinkers out there that could figure out how to upgrade a 430/440 steering package. Any takers?

Thanks,
Mark

If I remember correctly, there are a couple of salvage tractors at a yard here in central NY.
MacFadden and Sons. 518-284-2090.
If you are familliar with the DB tractors, the 1410s and newer versions had a transverse steering cylinder which clamped into the axle assy. and the rod extended out both sides of the barrel and was connected to the tierods, on each side.
Surplus Center has some similar cylinders listed.
Just a thought that I am considering on an older 440 I beam axle that I am converting from power assist slave cylinder, to hydrostatic steering.

I agree with Barry, I think its time to take the bad cylinder to a local machine shop and fabricate new parts to replace what is bad.

I wish it would have been as simple as fixing my old cylinder. I had one cylinder stolen from my tractor. They were unable to get the second one off. I am grateful to the members of Yesterday's Tractor who offered to sell me their spares. I was able to purchase a replacement.

That doesn't stop me from thinking about a replacement for the original cylinders. At some point, no one will have spares. So...who it the creative genius out there who has figured out a retrofit using a modern...and off the shelf replacement? I'm just saying that these things need to be considered.

Thanks again everyone,
Mark

Prince Hydraulic Corp had a line of standard bore cylinders available in various lengths with or without butt and rod fittings. And Surplus Supply has all types of hydraulic parts.

I also have a cylinder leak on my 430 case. After 2 weeks of
trying I finally got it off only to find out I messed up the threads
bad on the rear of the cylinder (where castle nut goes). I would
appreciate any info on where I could get a replacement cylinder.

Thanks in advance, Mike
