reading about blowby on the db below ?/,, begs a question for my 1070 with lots of blowby and YET it has plenty of power /been using the 1070 a lot this spring ,, and yes, no doubt it has been ethered by previous owners,,i rarely need to use the stuff ,because the 1070 and my 930 starts good below freezing with manifold heat /it came here with a craked head ,and it was a junkyard dawg,, Thad at Ruscha , sent me a excellent head,, and I installed new injectors.., this 1070 does not smoke, the exhaust is clean even in a constant pull ,, it is easy on fuel compared to my 4020 ,, it does not use oil,,.although I have added a couple quarts over the last month because of the chizl plowand plantin work ... btw muther deer mechanix say it is normal for a diesel 4020 to burn a quart in 8 hours

The ether thing is a DB weakness. The top 3 rings are spaced really close, making the piston between them relatively weak. They last forever it you keep the ether away. Use ether and you are going to break them.

Case offered an ether kit for the 70s. Rings are spaced much wider, making the pistons stronger in that area.
