The new clutch went into the DB990 the other day. Got her put back together and started her up for the first time since last July. Clutch works great. Bad part is there fuel dripping real fast, a steady stream, from the back side of the injector pump! With a mirror, it looks like a crack on the lower backside. All I can figure is water must have got past the filters and settled in the bottom of the pump. I have a supposedly good pump on the parts machine I can grab, but having a hard time finding info on timing the pump so far.

Gotta take the good with the bad I guess.

Did you have a short church session with a few choice words? I have forgotten the details of timing the pump, but hopefully Rich will pop in here with words of wisdome for you.

There should be a scribe line on the pump that aligns with the timing cover mark. The gear will stay in place and the woodruff key will align the shaft with the gear. For cold weather starts turn in the advance lock out screw to seat the ball, back it out after the engine starts.
 
ACG, more like me standing there with big old puppy dog tears in my eyes. :shock: Got it off yesterday PM and try as we might, we can't find a crack anywhere. Ended up taking it to a local shop (real good guys) that I was unaware had been working on pumps for some time. He had 3 more bodies right there and all the gaskets and proper o-rings and what not. We;ll see what he finds.

Got the timing thing figured out. Not really a problem after all since we didn't move the gears and it only fits one way. I was over thinking it again.
 
Like you discovered, timing is only really an issue if you have the gears off the front of the engine. The marks only line up once every 47 turns(or however many teeth the sun gear has). It confuses many.

Did yours have the small round cover in front of the pump, or did you have to pull the whole timing cover?
 
Got the small cover. I don't think you can move the gear enough to get it out of time. Pumps back on but she doesn't want to start so far. Air I imagine.
