Hi. I"m thinking about buying a case 641 this weekend. It runs good but the guy says the tranny don"t work. He says it keeps sheering a pin. replace the pin its fine for a little bit then sheers it again. Anyone know what might be wrong. thanks

What pin and where is it located? Sounds like a somewhat simple fix, which may need a woodruff key replaced or a keyway built up, BUT we need fare more details to answer your question.

He said you have to take the gas tank and battery off then you can get to a access plate where the pin is. He told me he has replaced the pin a few times and the transmission will work then the pin sheers and then nothing.he thinks maybe it has to do with the pump. It has a loader on it and he says the loader operates slow. He's asking a good price but I hope its not alot to fix it

It sounds like the woodruff key is missing in the range shifter shaft and only the roll pin is controlling the shifting fork, But you don't need to remove the fuel tank to fix that.
If it is a tripple range there is an adjusting pin on the clutch pack, BUT again that is under the tripple range shift cover also.
Still need more details as to what the pin fastenes to what.

OK. I just got off the phone with the guy and he said it was the woodruff key on the drive pump that keeps sheering. He puts a new one in and shortly it will sheer again. he was told the pump was putting out to much pressure but I don't think its the case. Yes it is a triple range. Thanks

The pump shaft or gear could be worn. There is a relief valve on the pump and it may be stuck and trying to dead head the pump.
You need to pumb in a gauge and check the relief valve pressure. Sorry, I don't have a SM at my fingertips, so i'm guessing about 1750psi on a 630. One of the Joes, here on this forum, may pop in with the correct pressure.

OK thanks for the help. I'm thinking I'm getting a good deal. $1800 for tractor loader with extra bucket and extra back tires

can not say for sure with out looking/tearing into it, but I would think it can be fixed for sure, if its the pump and it is not fixable which is possible for sure a replacement can be found, a new one may be in the 600.00 or more price range, just so you know

The service manual calls for the relief valve setting at 1300-1500 psi., with the pump rated at 9-10 gallons per minute.

Platte I have a 641 Triple Range. This is a nice little tractor. Don't know how much you know about the 630 series but it is a short run line made from 1960 thru 1963 vs 1960 thru 1969 for the rest of the 30 series tractors. It is bit more collectable I think because of that it never made it to the Comfort King change and most were offered with eagle hitch only I believe, Lorne (ACG), Tom (Case Nutty) and John Saeli as well as Melvin (mEl) who is a long time Case mechanic can confirm that. These guys as well as many others on this forum are a wealth of info and help, at least they have been to me. John (http://external_link.com/)is a good source for new and OEM parts and supplies. Others that monitor the forum are also good sources for salvage parts. If you are needing the pump just post a message out here and one of these folks will chime in. I have done business with most of them and they are all good honest folks.

Hope you get the tractor, its a nice machine.

Jim

Thanks for all the help. I'm getting the tractor on Saturday. I hope I can figure out the problem soon and put her to work
