2394 Lost 2, 4 , 6 powershift

Saturday afternoon after working the tractor all day, my nephew said that the 2394 has lost 2nd, 4th, and 6th powershift gears. I checked the fluid levels, and they were fine. So I climbed on in, and tried it myself. Yup nothing. It pulls hard in the odd shifts, but the evens are just dead. I tried the inching pedal to make sure it was engaging. I pulled up with my toe because it is a bit stiff. Nope no luck. The tractor has never slipped at all in any gears. I just plowed with it last week, and it ran strong as normal. So while I was at work on Monday, my father called the local dealer in Georgetown, Ohio. They instantly tell him 10,000 dollars to fix clutch packs. No looking at the tractor or anything. I have read about electrical switches and things. What could it be? Where do I start? I find it hard to imagine powershift or clutch packs going bad without a slip, or noises. They worked great all day, and then bam nothing? Please give advice if you can.

Thanks in advance,

Jared

Jared, I guess the first thing you should do is pressure test the powershift and test the electrical switches on the control valve. Having said that now I can say I bet your problem is just the relay as it is called or the controller of the powershift. It is located in the lower front part of the shift console and has about a dozen wires hooked to it. For a couple hundred dollars and a little time you can carefully replace it yourself. Now watch, that won't be the problem and I will have egg all over my face again, LOL. Rod.

I would agree that the most probable issue is the transmission control board under the console in the cab. I replaced one a couple of years ago and it was around $180 at the dealer.

One other place to look before you replace the board would be the pressure switches on the C5/C6 manifold. Look under the cab steps on the left side of the transmission housing. Make sure there are no wires disconnected. These switches control the ground circuits of the circuit board in the cab.

Thank you both very much. My dad went to the Equipment Superstore yesterday. They had no clue on a tractor that old, but did give him a cut sheet of the wiring diagram, and some places electronic to check. Hope to test it tonight. I have a feeling its electrical. The tractor is a strong runner, and only problems I have ever had out of it are the AC, which is out again lol. I will post back my results. I thank you all very much. Its people like you that make this site so great.

Well got a call from The Equipment Superstore. After all your help I narrowed my problem down to being electrical. Well it was a $30.00 Pressure Switch, and a $700 dollar shift part. I can not remember what my dad told me over the phone. It was either a shift linkage, or shift switch on the higher part. I am just so glad it wasn't the power shift that they had quoted over the phone when I called about the problem. Now I just need to have the AC fixed and get her home. Next project is to learn how to paint the ole girl. She needs a refresh.

Thanks again to the guys that chimed in with help. You guys got me on the right track, and possibly saved me a ton of money.

Jared :D
