I have a 1370 that I got with a bad motor, now that I have it running I have a concern about the way the power- shift down shifts when the clutch pedal is pushed in. I understand that it will go into 1st then, but mine seems to be very severe and it happens before the tractor stops. Other than that it seems fine. Is this normal ?

From what I was taught from all my old case techs at work is to NEVER just push in the clutch pedel when you are in any power shift gear other than 1. Always down shift to 1 then push the clutch to stop. When you do it in other gears you are making a whole lot of gear sets and clutch packs come to a sudden stop which would cause a harsh feel. This is also taking out your power shift clutches over time.

Sounds to me like your retard adjustment on one clutch is to tight holding the clutch pac in as the other applies causing a 3 clutch engagement which locks the trans up momentarily. Unless you are familiar with the retard setup and adjustment my advice would be to get a good Case tech to look it over for you.

I did a little research about the retard valve screws then backed both of them out 1/4 turn each. Made a hugh difference I dont think it could get any better so thats were there staying for now. I also changed my driving style some. Now I might tackle the range shifter It seems really wore out and out of adjustment. Hard to find neutral so the starter works correctly.
