1070 Hydraulic level

I have a 1070 Gold Demo with a PS transmission. Going downhill it free-wheeled with no brakes or steering. When at bottom it worked again as did PTO, hyd levers, and PS. Believe it was low on hydraulic level. Could not see any sight glasses on RH side or a dipstick in back. Remember reading somewhere here in the past about how to check fluid level without overfilling but couldn't find it doing a search.

Can someone please refresh my memory so I don't ruin a PS or worse?? Thanks in advance.

You are on the right track done the same thing years ago,the sight glass's as said are on the left side behind brakes we just unscrew dads an when it is full runs out, hard to see the oil, otherwise.

Thanks. Used tractor yesterday and did pull oil filler off of pto on LH side. It appeared there was a dipstick at one time that was part of the filler cap and it had broken off or been broke off. Is this possible that to check the fluid level to use a dipstick? I thought I remember reading somewhere on here sometime that the first 70 series tractors had an incorrect fluid level indicator and there was a change made in how much hydraulic oil or Hytran should be in the rear end/transmission/pto. Is this correct?

I just went out and looked and did see sight glasses. What do I need to unscrew them without breaking them first of all?

Also is there something about the levels and Case changing the requirement for how much fluid is desired in transmission/rear end?

And is there supposed to be a dipstick attached to the filler cap on the PTO?

Sorry for so many questions but don't want to mess something up. Also it developed a hydraulic leak on the power steering up front under the radiator. Guess I get to take the RH side panel off and start powerwashing to see where it is coming from.

as for unscrewing he site glass I have used pliers the one time I had one out, I can see thru mine as long as I keep them clean on the outside but I do have to get up to them in certain light to make sure, there was a update on the trans level on 1270-1570 if I remember right you added 5 gallon and it came with a fill plug with dipstick, I do not remember the 770-1175 being included in that update, no there was never a dipstick on the filler plug, I will say it does not hurt to add 3 gallon or so over full

You are correct, the trans level update was for the large transmiison case tractors only. 5 gal. extra in the transmission and a dipstick to reflect the level increase, it never applied to the 770 thru the 1175 style trannys.
