New Toy- SO

Just got my 1950 SO home. Starts and runs. Needs carb overhauled and a battery. Missing the lights but otherwise pretty original with new firestone tires. Needs front tires.

Not sure? It has holes along the outside of the fenders to I assume bolt on the fender Orchard skirts. The tractor is pretty narrow. It has a up stack air cleaner and up exaust? Hand clutch on right and brake pedals in floor under your feet. I have a D and the only difference between a D and a DO with out orchard skirting that I can tell is the down exaust and short air cleaner on the DO.

This is a picture of my 1944 S. It spent its early life in orchards near Benton Harbor Michigan. air cleaner has been cut down to fit below the hood and has a short downward exhaust.

Nice find. My "43" S spent its early life in the orange groves of South Florida. It had no lamps as well, and had a cut down light backet (narrower) which I'm told was standard on the SO, normaly the sheet metal covered up this area.
The air cleaner was shortened to fit under the cowl, and the exhaust turned downwards. I have since added lamps and turned the exhaust back up. Now it works on my tree farm.

Couple of things that I have found to be different between my S and SO include short aircleaner with different cap. Shorter steering wheel shaft. Fenders have the holes drilled in outer edge to attach optional fender extensions. Seat channel is straight to lower the operator position. I think that the drive sprocket on the axles is differnt between the two also allowing the SO to be slower. Not sure if factory but one of my SO"s also has a 1/2 as wide belt pulley to allow more clearance for the tires. Probably more differnces but that is what I remember for now.
