Mark, Case sold LOTS of 1816 Uni's in various series, I think they are very good little units, they are small and like any skid-steer WEAR YOUR SEATBELT AT ALL TIMES! as they can be tipped over both ways, depending on the series and if it has been changed it can have a Tecumseh engine or a Onan, the Onan you can get parts for the Tecumseh not so much, they have a belt drive hyd system and wear on pulleys and or belts will affect drive performance make sure the hydrostat system is working correctly, I would check the wheel/axle bearings as well

I had one that was strictly a summer machine. Started good and ran great when warm but couldn't be started in winter. It was an early model. The hydraulics were direct drive on the belt so when you cranked the engine over you were turning all the pumps. Later models had a release lever for the belt so you could disengage the pumps until the motor was started and warmed up.
Great machine otherwise.

We have had a 1816B for 30+ years and it is a good little machine. It has the clutch throw out and will start in cold weather. We had put in several Tecumsch engines in its life and finally repowered with a Honda twin 20 hp a few years ago. Case Nutty covered the things to look for and watch for during operation.
